In The Beginning

Starting a blog was my only goal for 2008 which is nice because I won't have to do anything for the rest of the year! My intentions for having a blog can be best summed up by the artist Henri Matisse who once said, "The artist has but one idea. He is born with it and spends a lifetime developing it and making it breathe...and I move along the course of the picture's creation, pushed by an idea that I come to know only gradually as it develops." I have always hung on to that quote because I feel like it really illustrates the way I feel about my work. In me, there is this constant hunger to create something and all of my sketches, drawings and paintings feel like attempts at capturing what exactly that 'something' is. Anyway, I just thought a blog would be a great way to keep me developing my personal work and sort of record the evolution in the process. I sort of feel like Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams trying to figure out what I am supposed to build and I imagine you looking at my work with the same confused looks his neighbors displayed when he started mowing down his corn field.

These are a few pages from my sketchbook that show my "style of the month." The contrast between tight/refined drawing and a loose uncontrolled line really interests me. I enjoy the thrill of potentially destroying a drawing in an attempt to infuse life into it.

The contrast shows that you can be serious, but you don't have to be. I like the kitty-bot.

Kris, from "hairless" to your new blog, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. I like the first one a lot.

I like this work. Its a side to your art that I've never seen before.
Just FYI I'm going to add your blog to my links.

Very Nice Kris, I'm not sure I understand, but it looks cool :)

For some reason these pictures remind of the time we watched Donny Darko, realistic enough to some like a normal movie, but with a FREAKY ONE EYED bunny staring at you in the background every other scene. I do enjoy them.

I love it but I was wondering where my portait is. Do you want me to give you the ones I have?

Awesome stuff Kris!!! I feel inspired! I love the cat robot. If Megatron had a pet--that's what it would be, except evil.
If it's cool with you, I'd love to add you blog to my favorites links.

I heard you were an artist, but wow! I'm really impressed, Kris!
Holland wants to take art lessons. She's almost 6. Do you teach?
Ok, so this is funny. Grove & I went to La Vigna (very gf friendly by the way - they were very nice about it - double checked everything & super yummy) & I made a comment when we drove past Pier 49 about that I hoped someday we would be able to eat pizza together there....My sis. and her husband both really like Pier 49. I'd have to cheat on the dairy, but could be totally worth it...
Ironic, huh?
Thanks for the info! I'm so excited! Grove wants to take me bowling this weekend. I'll tell him I'll go bowling with him if he'll take me to pizza first!
Really, I'm very impressed with the art.

Man alive, that is impressive! I've only seen the drawings of your kids (which are great, BTW). But this stuff is amazing! I love seeing your art: I feel like I better understand your personality. Love it, love it!

Willy,
I can't wait to see the art that you are preparing. I also thought when I saw your current art that you always said that Mr Ed was a classy horse. I have always saw the opposite. Now seeing that a horse looks good in shirt and tie...I admit that you are right. I stand by my belief however that Mr Ed had lose morals,
Spencer

That's cool! I didn't know that you drew. I am into art too and so is Danny. I like your style.

My student likes your last three pictures.
This is a question from him:
how many pictures have you drawn?
